Today is my second day from the one-week Chinese New Year Break. Loyal readers now assume that my entire UWC life consists only of holidays, because that’s when my blog posts appear mainly. But it’s not true – an update.

As soon as I got accepted for the scholarship, I contacted the previous German scholarship holders at UWCSEA. I asked questions about Singapore, school life at UWCSEA and how life works in the boarding house. Again and again I heard that they liked to leave the boarding house for dinner or overnight because they wanted to get out.

I couldn’t understand it because: Hallooo? You’re part of such a cool community in Boarding House, why do you want to leave? Even in my first few weeks in Singapore, I could not understand these escape wishes – even our catering food is mega good!?

How antithetical that the day of this “Welcome!” video shoot was at the same time “See you soon, we’ll miss you!”-Day.

Milena wearing a mask as COVID measure in front of the Central Business District of Singapore
Masks are mandatory in Singapore.

Keywords such as “new infections”, “measures” or “new maximum value” are daily trends on German Twitter, masks are mandatory in schools now and people protest against the LoSs Of OuR fReEdOm. Germany is now in lockdown light and my family is not sure how or if they will celebrate Christmas together.
